Casa Brasil starts today; it’s a two-week festival of Brazilian food and culture, hosted at Covent Garden in London. It runs from 25th August to the 7th September, and will showcase Brazilian food, culture, design, fashion, and more.

It was my great pleasure to be invited to the launch event for the festival, which was hosted at Mano Mayfair, on Heddon Street. Mano Mayfair is a wonderful Brazilian-Japanese fusion restaurant led by the very talented Luciana Berry as head chef.

We had a lovely evening tasting some spectacular Brazilian food, and for me the evening was also an introduction to some outstanding Brazilian wines.

As we enjoyed the wine and food, I had the great pleasure of chatting with Head of Trade and Investment at the Embassy of Brazil, Carlos Pacha, and Brazilian Wine Specialist, Caroline Palma de Azevedo. As Caroline provided a superb education on the subject of Brazilian wine, Carlos patiently answered our questions about Brazil, and discussed with us his view of the opportunities for greater trade and co-operation between the UK and Brazil.

All in all, a great start to Casa Brasil. Congratulations to Luciana and the team at Mano Mayfair for a fantastic evening. Congratulations also to Catherine Farinha and the team at Red Cherry who managed and organised the event so superbly.

Casa Brasil looks like it’s going to be a blast, so my advice is to get along if you can. I certainly will. More details and a full agenda here.
