The question of how and when we unlock the lockdown is the discussion of the moment. This question is slightly more urgent for caterers in the education sector. It is now very likely that the return to school process will start in early June.
Many schools have been delivering a food offer to the children of key workers throughout the lockdown. However, school caterers will now be challenged to deliver a nutritious and tasty food offer, that meets all the standards, and sits within budget, to an uncertain number of children, all whilst working under Covid-19 and social distancing guidelines. Every school is physically different, and so there will not be much room for one-size-fits-all approaches.
To help, Premier Foods is running an “Ask The Chefs” session via webinar on Thursday 28th May. They have very kindly asked me to be one of the chefs in question, and I’m looking forward to the discussion with the team and with those attending the webinar. We’ll be looking to provide as much practical and actionable advice to those in the education sector as we can.
